MillerCoors and Matthew Shepard Foundation Partner to Help Erase Hate A matching gift of $10,000 encourages individuals to participate in on-line campaign
GOLDEN, Colo. (Nov. 24, 2008) MillerCoors has teamed up with Judy Shepard to support her ongoing commitment to ensure that dealing with hate is a top priority in our schools and workplaces. MillerCoors, a national sponsor of the Matthew Shepard Foundation, will match 100% of the first $10,000 in donations through the Campaign to Erase Hate.
“Through our on-going commitment to the Matthew Shepard Foundation, we hope we can be part of the solution for erasing hate in our society,” Doug Sanborn, MillerCoors brand manager - LGBT, said. “Through this matching funds campaign, we hope to raise awareness and raise crucial funding needed to equip individuals with the necessary tools to discuss and address hate issues,” he added.
Judy Shepard, mother of Matthew Shepard and director of the Foundation, noted that education, awareness and advocacy are key to erasing hate in schools, workplaces and communities. “What we are trying to do is give this great work a structure and create a community of individuals who are using their voices and talents to address these issues,” Shepard said.
According to Sanborn, MillerCoors was one of the first companies to step up to the Campaign’s challenge through a $25,000 matching fund donation. He noted that MillerCoors also has a long history of support in the GLBT communities it serves.

SIGN UP TODAY AND JOIN THE CAMPAIGN TO ERASE HATE
GOAL IS TO EQUIP ONE MILLION PEOPLE WITH TOOLS TO RAISE THEIR VOICES AND USE THEIR TALENTS TO ERASE HATE
Denver , CO - Denver , CO - In observance of the ten years since the murder of University of Wyoming student Matthew Shepard, the Matthew Shepard Foundation launched an aggressive anti-hate campaign aimed at creating a movement of people working to lessen the impact of hate in society. Realizing the importance of this 10th year observance, Judy Shepard, Executive Director of the Matthew Shepard Foundation, launched the ‘Campaign to Erase Hate’ by asking the crowd of more than 500 people to raise themselves to the power of ten and join with her in helping the Foundation fulfill its mission of erasing hate.
The overall goal of this new campaign is to equip individuals with the necessary tools to discuss and address hate in our society. These tools include personal webpages, resources on dealing with hateful speech and actions, monthly correspondence and most importantly, a way to invite ten others to join.
